Hello friends! I'm back with the All About series...today it's on Skin Undertones.
I think if I hadn't discovered the art of undertones, I would continue to walk around with the wrong foundation color on for the rest of my life...not cute!!
I know it may sound like I'm over-exaggerating but once you know your undertones and make adjustments with your foundation colors, your life changes! Seriously, for the better! Nobody wants to walk around with a completely different color of foundation on. Now, you're probably thinking, but I've gone to MAC, Sephora, etc. to be color matched. Well, I've also been and all my foundations were completely off! Nobody knows your skin better than you do.
So if you'd like to learn more about these so called undertones...stick around!
What is an undertone? | It's the hint of color under your skin that helps make it unique. Although the surface color of your skin changes depending on tanning, acne, redness, etc. your undertone remains consistent.
What type of undertones are there? | There are warm, neutral, and cool tones.
What's the difference? | A warm skin tone has a natural yellow undertone, a cool skin tone has a blue undertone, and a neutral skin tone has a happy medium.
How do I find my undertone? | Let's make it simple, shall we?
Take the following test:
What type of jewelry do you look best in? Personal preferences aside.
Gold. All types. Silver
If you don't wear sunscreen, what happens?
Tan easily. Tan and burn. Burn easily.
What color are the veins inside your wrist?
More blue. Blue/green. More green.
If you answered--gold, tan easily, more blue--you have warm undertones.
If you answered--all types, tan and burn, blue/green--you have neutral undertones.
If you answered--silver, burn easily, more green--you have cool undertones.
Warm Undertones -- aka yellow, golden, or peach undertones. Your foundation should be yellow or peach based.
Cool Undertones -- aka pink, red, or blue undertones. Your foundation should be neutral or pink based.
Neutral Undertones -- have no obvious tones of golden or blue in their skin. People with this tone have the easiest time finding the perfect foundation.
Shopping for Foundation | Most foundations now a days come in a variety of colors and tones. Making it easier to find your perfect match. If possible try on the foundation, not on your wrist, but on your neck or cheek and make sure there is plenty of light.
Most foundation shades come with a C or W followed by the number or name of the color. C standing for cool and W standing for warm.
Choosing Makeup Colors | If you have warm undertones, you look best in gold, copper, bronze, and earth toned eyeshadows. Along with warm peach or coral blushes. Looking for your perfect red lippie, try an orange based red.
If you have cool undertones, you look best in silver, pink, magenta, any jewel tone eyeshadows. Along with a cool pink or rosy blushes. Looking for your perfect red lippie, try a blue based red.
If you have neutral undertones, you can pull of wearing EVERYTHING! Lucky you!!!
But of course rules were meant to be broken, so if you have a warm undertone and want to wear a cool pink blush, go for it!!! Just don't break the rules when it comes to your foundation shade.
So if you're still around and read this entire post, thank you!! I know some people just skim through some of them, I tried to cram in everything without making it too long.
Thanks for stopping by!
